"Viagra is a blockbuster drug and Lilly's products have been the subject of numerous marketing campaigns," said Brian G. Fisler, Jr., President and CEO of LillyPharma. "The availability of this generic Viagra product has not only saved Lilly a great deal of money, but has also saved millions of dollars on other drugs."

Lilly will continue to manufacture and market its own PDE5 inhibitor product in the United States.
In April 2005, the FDA approved Lilly's second-to-current drug, Viagra®, a PDE5 inhibitor with an active ingredient known as sildenafil citrate. Lilly's current patent for Viagra® expires in November 2009.
"We've just completed our first three months of data analysis, and the company is confident that it will complete the first three months of data analysis for Viagra®," said Mark B. Gebreichert, president and CEO of LillyPharma. "This acquisition gives our new partner access to the FDA and provides Lilly with the flexibility to market a generic Viagra product as long as it remains in the United States."
